This is the mug set I made. It's a set of six mugs but I made two extras that I used to test colors and shape. The hardest part about making mugs is getting the right size. I really tried to practice working on that and I felt like I improved a lot but I still need to work on it. I think I could do a lot better if I make all the mugs in the same day, but that is not the case since I only have 90 minutes of class time.
I made the patterns you seen on the mug with a stamp that had circular groves on it. The clay was semi hard, so it didn't catch the stamps imprint so I decided to just press the stamp randomly. Doing that I created this interesting texture. I also experimented with the shape I wanted for the handle. I didn't want to make it plain, so I made the swirls at the end of the bottom of the handle and accommodated the shape of the handle for a hand. I also wanted to top the whole look of the cup with thumb nuggets!!!! A thumb nugget is a little nub part of the handle so that your thumb can rest on it comfortably because it takes the shape of a thumb. I didn't want to make the basic round shape so I made it look like a droplet. The shape of the thumb nugget make the mug look more elegant.
